Q. Why use cuneAform when composer is already available?
A. For a couple reasons. The first and biggest (literally) is the fact the cuneAform is small and can be added after the product is installed. Also, this is a composer for FireFox inasmuch as there is no real editor for FireFox.
Second, cuneAform has bigger goals and expectations than does composer. Composer will probably never change whereas cuneAform will (hopefully) be actively updated. One such goal is that cuneAform can be run server-side, something that compose currently can't do.
Q. What is the difference between HTMLarea and cuneAform?
A. It is true that cuneAform is built on HTMLarea. The difference? Both projects have different goals. While HTMLarea works on in-document editing, cuneAform works on stand-alone editing. Also, cuneAform is becoming a different "beast" as it matures into a better Mozilla program.
If you look at both programs their differences seems few-and-far-between but the source code of the scripts are amazingly different.
Also, we'll start using eDOM for our backend soon, this
will hopefully make the program smaller.
Q. Will you be adding ____ into the program?
A. cuneAform aims to be a simple program that can fulfill many functions. If you have a idea, code it, send it to us and if it's good we'll put it in the program with your name in the credits. If you don't know how to program,
then file a bug with that suggestion, if we use that idea you will have your name in for the idea.
Q. Why did you call your program cuneAform?
A. Because cuneiform (ancient writing) was a new system of syllables that would convey an idea or story in its time, and XHTML & cuneAform is a new system of syllables that convey an idea or story today.
Q. Nice site! Can I get the source?
A. Yes and No. Only the content of the site is
open source. The design is (c) and is used by
permission.
Q. Can I redistribute your program on my |website - magazine - email to a friend - etc.|
A. Yes. cuneAform can be redistributed as long as you:
a) Don't say you made it.
b) You include the program as the original work. (or if
changes are made, note that it is a changed version)
c) You have a link to this website in the same text.
d) Tell us you included the program
Q. When I run cuneAform on Linux/Unix the Mozilla stalls and gives an error message saying that an overlay could not be loaded.
A. This is a problem with the way Linux and Mozilla handle the newly installed files. To fix this, make sure the cuneAform.jar file (you might have to search your HDD) is CHMOD'd to All Users or equivalent.
Fixes may vary from distribution to distribution, but the above instructions should work in 99.999% of cases.
Q. The toolbar icons don't appear, but the correct
function is shown if I hover over them.
A. This is primarily a problem in Firefox. For
Firefox just go to Tools -> Options... -> Web
Features -> Advanced and make sure all the boxes are
checked.
Q. I can't find Save/Open buttons.
A. To Open A Document: Because cuneAform can't interact with the file system you will need to either view the source of the page in your web browser or open the document in notepad or similar and then paste the code into cuneAform's HTML view (the <> icon). See bug #5926.
To Save a Document: To save a document press the diskette icon on the cuneAform toolbar. A new window will open with your document, press file->Save Page As... to save your page to disk. See bug #5926.
Q. Is this the end of the FAQ
A. Yup. Hope your question was answered. If not, don't hesitate to
contact us!
